Bovey Tracey Walkers
We are an informal group of ramblers based in Bovey Tracey, Devon on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park. What's the best about our group? We run a variety of walks ranging from 5 to 10 miles approx, aiming to alternate the shorter walks (5-6.5 miles) with the longer ones. Our year round programme aims to have a walk averaging every 7 days but falling on different days of the week, making it easier for walkers to fit in with their other commitments.
We have been successfully running a year round programme of walks for many years on Dartmoor and the surrounding areas. There is no commitment in going on our walks though we do, of course, encourage people to eventually lead walks if they feel able.
We are a very friendly group of mainly retired folk. Attendances on walks generally range from 8 to 14 peaking at 20, partly depending on the weather! The shorter walks (5 to 6.5 miles) are at a more leisurely pace than the longer walks. We stop for coffee and later for lunch to eat our sandwiches though some walks finish with an optional pub lunch.
As our costs are minimal, there is no subscription to join our group (apart from those not on email supplying postage stamps), but we make everyone aware that as we have no insurance cover and just walk as a group of friends, everyone walks at their own risk.
There is a possibility of sharing cars with other walkers, particularly when the leader goes first to the Station Road car park in Bovey Tracey.
