Spin A Yarn

We are a specialist yarn shop located in Bovey Tracey offering exciting yarns from as far around the world as New Zealand, Japan and Peru, along with locally produced organic wool and fleece. Since 2006 we have been continually expanding our stock of unusual yarns to give knitters in the South West the opportunity to touch and try a range of exotic and beautiful yarns. We welcome both visitors and locals to our friendly shop where a cup of tea and expert advice awaits!

Spin A Yarn is one of the most established and popular yarn shops in the country, stocking yarn from all over the world as well as supporting local producers plus yarn from the Isle of Skye, Harris and Wales.

The range of yarns and patterns is one of the biggest in the country and customers come from far and wide. “We have a lot of loyal customers who come to Devon on their holidays each year and always make a point of visiting Bovey and shopping here. We are a specialist independent shop with something very unique to offer. Our staff have a lot of knowledge about the wool producers and are always happy to help people find exactly what they want. ” explains Joyce.

Joyce and her team are all keen knitters and encourage beginners and more experienced knitters to pop in any time for help with their projects or join their popular schedule of workshops to learn new skills. Joyce explains, “We do our best to inspire people to be creative and knitting is very good for you! We have customers who have said knitting has helped them over an illness; it’s also a great stress buster”.

Spin a Yarn runs regular monthly knit clubs to encourage knitting, friendship and support, always welcoming new members. ‘Craft and the wool industry in the UK goes back centuries and we are keeping some of these unique crafts alive and accessible for both young and old, as well as supporting the wool industry - it’s an important part of what and who we are. The shop also hosts an extensive programme of interesting workshops, from Norweigan Mittens and Lace Knitting to Willow Basket Weaving and Freeform Crochet.
